The South Australian government’s ‘Kanyini’ satellite is now in orbit, having launched on a SpaceX mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Musk said the decision was made because of a bill signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom that prevents school districts from requiring employees to notify parents if a student wants to use different pronouns.

A contract between SpaceX and the U.S. is worth $1.8 billion, Reuters reported.

Space Machines Company launched in 2019 with a mission to clean up space junk and service the some-7,000 satellites orbiting in the sky. After two-and-a-half-years in design-mode, its orbital servicing vehicle, Optimus, is ready for take-off, on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch in March 2024.

The company lost contact with the rocket about 10 minutes after launch, cutting short its plan for a roughly 90-minute operation.

Ron Baron, who reportedly owns a $1.7 billion stake in SpaceX, also expects the company to be worth $250 billion to $300 billion by that time.

The launch is also the first time a Russian cosmonaut is taking off from U.S. soil in 20 years.
