The highly awaited FIFA Women’s World Cup is finally upon us. With an unprecedented number of tickets already snatched up, the four-week tournament is destined to claim its place in history as the most-attended standalone event for women’s sports.
Below, we break down the teams, the groups, the odds, the fixture, how to watch and how to get tickets.
When and where is the World Cup?
In its ninth edition, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, making history as the first Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted across two confederations – the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). The tournament is scheduled from July 10 to August 20, 2023, featuring 32 teams, up from 24 in the previous edition.
This year’s tournament sees teams from various confederations globally, including first-time qualifiers. Traditional powerhouses, including the United States, Germany, and the host nations Australia and New Zealand, are set to take the field. Emerging teams from different parts of the world, like Chile from South America, Zambia from Africa, and India from Asia, are also present.

Optus Sport subscribers can also stream all 64 matches live.
“We are looking forward to working with Optus Sport, Fifa and Australia’s wonderful athletes to present a fantastic competition in 2023,” Lewis Martin, Seven’s head of network sport said.

Prize Money
FIFA has increased the prize money for the 2023 Women’s World Cup to $110 million (AU$165m) as total prize money for the 2023 tournament. An additional $42.5 million (AU$64m) has been designated for tournament preparation funding and benefits for clubs.
It’s still well short of the $440 million (AU$650) million allocated for the men’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The governing body said it would ensure the majority goes directly to the 732 competing players.
“Under this unprecedented new distribution model, each individual player at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 can now fully rely on remuneration for their efforts as they progress through the tournament,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
