Telstra customers this morning have been left fuming after the national telco announced it was “urgently trying to fix” an Australia-wide outage that is preventing people from making and receiving calls.

The outage was first reported on Monday evening as a national issue, but by Tuesday morning it was primarily impacting two states – NSW and QLD.

Telstra said on Twitter that Triple Zero calls and Wi-Fi calls using Apps such as WhatsApp and FaceTime shouldn’t be impacted.

“If you are experiencing issues we recommend you switch airplane mode on and off or try making a data call using WiFi calling or other apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime. We’re sorry for the late night hassle,” Telstra said on Twitter.

In the meantime, businesses and families that rely on Telstra have been left seething, posting their frustrations on social media.

At 11:20am Telstra said on Twitter that the issue had been resolved, and that customers who were still experiencing issues should turn Airplane mode on and off.
