Tudor unveils the Black Bay ceramic ‘Blue’ V-CARB F1 watch

Tudor on Wednesday released the Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” timepiece marking its continued partnership with the Visa Cash App RB (V-CARB) Formula 1 team. It combines contemporary, high-tech details with subtle references to the Swiss watch brand’s heritage. It’s the same watch worn by V-CARB drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda.

The watch features a 41mm matt black ceramic case with a unidirectional rotating bezel in black-PVD-treated 316L, a 60-minute graduated disc in black ceramic, sunray satin finish, and engraved markings and numerals.

The screw-down winding crown is in black-PVD-treated 316L steel, with the Tudor rose in relief and a circular satin-brushed steel winding crown tube. The watch is waterproof to 200 meters.

The blue domed dial and white applied hour markers match the livery colors of the V-CARB car. Tudor signature “snowflake” hands are topped with Grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova luminescent.

The watch is powered by the in-house caliber MT5602-1U automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve. It consists of a screw-adjustable variable inertia balance and a non-magnetic silicon balance spring that oscillates at a frequency of 28,000 beats/hour (4 Hz).

The movement and case are both COSC and METAS certified.

Completing the watch is a hybrid leather and rubber strap with exclusive stitching and folding clasp in black PVD-treated 316L steel. It also comes with a black fabric strap with blue band and black PVD-treated 316L steel buckle.

The watch received METAS Master Chronometer certification, meaning it can function within a 5-second range of variation each day (0/+5), carried out on uncased movements—a second less than Tudor’s internal standard (-2/+4), for its in-house movements. The certification also guarantees the timekeeping accuracy of a watch subjected to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. It also guarantees the waterproof and power reserve claims by Tudor.

Tudor’s relationship with the V-CARB team, the newest Formula 1 team, began in February when the team unveiled its new car with the Tudor logo on its nose. At the unveiling, Tsunoda and Ricciardo were wearing the new team uniform with the Tudor shield on the chest, and each were wearing a Tudor watch. The Swiss watch brand did not provide details of the timepiece at the time.

The V-CARB sponsorship marks a return to auto racing for Tudor. The brand supported winning teams starting with the Tudor Watch Racing Team in the late 1960s to the recent IMSA TUDO United SportsCar Championship.

V-CARB represents new management and branding of the AlphaTauri team. The Red Bull Italian Formula 1 team has competed in more than 350 races since it was founded. The team was launched as Scuderia Toro Rosso with the goal of bringing future champions to the Formula 1 grid. It rebranded in 2020 as Scuderia AlphaTauri, with a victory at the Italian Grand Prix in its first season.

The team under V-CARB name and Tudor sponsorship has an expanded mission to battle for the top spots in Formula 1 racing. In the 2024 season so far, Tsunoda is in 10th place with 19 points and Ricciardo is in 13th with 11 points, among the 21-drivers competing this year.

The Tudor Black Bay Ceramic “Blue” retails for $5,150.
