The US Open marks the end of the annual Grand Slam and tennis fans will not have a tournament with so many participants to enjoy until January, when the Australian Open returns, so the New York concrete puts the icing on the cake for the season. It does so as always, with a concentration of noise and excitement that spills from the stands of Flushing Meadows to the courts where the best tennis players in the world play.

The world’s leading women’s tennis players are not just making headlines with their performances on the court; they’re also turning heads with the watches they choose to wear, both during matches and in the moments that follow, showcasing timepieces from some of the most prestigious brands in the world.

But who is wearing what?

Iga Świątek

World Number One Iga Świątek is supported by the number one watch brand, Rolex. The official timekeeper of the event also supports the likes of Coco Gauff (pictured above), WTA number 3 and current defending US Open champion, and Zheng Qinwen (World No. 7).

Świątek, who won her first Grand Slam title in Paris in 2020, was also seen collecting the winner’s trophy at the US Open in 2022, with a Rolex on her wrist. One of her personal favourites is the classic Datejust, a classic three-hand watch with a date.

Describing it as “elegant, very small and simple”, Świątek says she appreciates its comfort and simplicity in her daily life.

Barbora Krejč ikova

Having risen to eighth place in the WTA rankings, 28-year-old Czech Barbora Krejčikova signed a partnership with Swatch’s Rado earlier this year. The brand also sponsors tennis player Linda Noskova, who often wears a white ceramic True Square Open Heart, and previously did the same with retired Ash Barty.

Just like Rafael Nadal, who competes in one of his Richard Mille’s, Krejčiková does not take off her watch when she steps onto the court. Off the court, she has worn one of the automatic models designed for Rado by Franco-Austrian designer Marina Hoermanseder. It belongs to her Captain Cook diving line, measures 37 mm in diameter, costs 3,050 euros and she has posed with it on her Instagram profile.

Naomi Osaka

Osaka is back. After a few months away from the circuit, the influential Japanese player is once again competing in the New York championship, which she has won twice, in 2018 and 2020, with outfits that are livening up tennis fashion like never before. In recent years, Osaka has chosen the Swiss TAG Heuer to tell the time.

A model from the brand was even illuminated with her name, the Aquaracer Professional 300 Naomi Osaka Limited Edition in green, the colour of the Wimbledon grass, available only in the United States, Japan and Australia.

Karolina Pliskova

Another renowned Czech tennis player,  Karolína Plíšková, has been a Hublot ambassador since 2017. In the photos she posts on her Instagram profile, she has shown off practically the entire catalogue of the brand, and look how many there are. She is not averse to a small Classic Fusion with diamonds or to one of the most groundbreaking pieces of the house, the Big Bang Unico Green Saxem, in a fluorescent green shade that she dominates.

The one Plíšková wears in the video is made of Saxem, a material that is mainly used in satellites and some lasers. The athlete dares to do anything.

Donna Vekic

FP Journe is the watchmaker supplying Croatian Vekic, number 24 in the WTA. The independent brand was founded in 1999 by the talented watchmaker François-Paul Journe, whose intricate creations are highly valued at auction.

Vecik won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris wearing a member of the brand’s Élégante collection, recognisable by its barrel shape and sky-blue strap. It was with this that she brought her country the first Olympic medal in history.
