TAG Heuer adds a Panda and Pink Gold to the Carrera collection

TAG Heuer is boosting its vintage-inspired Carrera Chronograph line with three new releases: a two-tone ladies’ diamond-set Carrera; a gold version of the Carrera Skipper; and a modern remake of the 7753N, a classic Panda Carrera from the 1960s.

Among the original Carrera models designed by Jack Heuer in the 1960s was the Ref. 7753 SN (the “SN” in the name, a mix of French and English nomenclature, stands for for “silver” and “noir”). It was an early version of what today is called the Panda style, with dark subdials over a light background. The 7753 SN had a silvered dial with black subdials, as does the remake, in a design driven by legibility. It also had stripes down the hour markers and hands to give them extra clarity, and double stops at 12 to make it clear when the chronograph was zeroed.

The model itself got more visibility when it was worn on the wrist of actor Matt Damon playing car designer Carol Shelby in the 2019 movie “Ford v Ferrari.” The dial is topped by the iconic “glassbox” crystal, a recently revived vintage feature that TAG is giving to new Carrera models.

The Carrera Skipper Chronograph, a yachting watch with a countdown timer, is next up. Based on an original design from 1968, it was revived last year in steel but now appears in 18k gold. The original Skipper was launched under the leadership of Jack Heuer to celebrate the victory of the New York Yacht Club’s Intrepid over New Zealand’s Dame Pattie in the previous year’s America’s Cup. The 39mm watch has a curved flange to make it easy to read from all angles, particularly during the vital 15-minute period before the starting gun of a yacht race is fired. It combines a sea-blue main dial with two sharply contrasting sub-dials—a 12-hour counter in teal and a 15-minute regatta counter divided into three five–minute segments of different colors.

The Carrera Date has also been elevated this year with rose gold touches. It was launched last year in a 36mm (ladies’) version, and now comes out in three new models, two of which are two-tone (steel and pink gold). The first model has a copper dial matching the rose gold bezel, crown and bracelet links, which alternate with steel. The case is steel.

The second new model is also two-tone, but the dial is mother-of-pearl, with diamond indexes and a diamond flange.

The third has an all steel case, bracelet and bezel, but retains the gold plated hands and hour markers, as well as the mother-of-pearl dial and diamond flange.
