Luxury cruise brand Silversea has sent its Silver Nova off on its inaugural Alaska season, comprising of 18 voyages.
The Silver Nova, which launches alongside its sister ship Silver Ray in mid-May, has arrived in Alaska for the first time, as it prepares to embark on a series of seven-day voyages from May 9 until September 5 this year.
The ship boasts pioneering energy efficiency standards – it’s reportedly 40% more energy efficient than required by international standards and regulations – and includes a range of all-new venues, suite options and wellness experiences.
The new season also marks the introduction of the luxury liner’s S.A.L.T program. That’s an acronym for Sea and Land Taste, and is Silversea’s award-winning culinary enrichment program, which gives guests the opportunity to experience destination-focused gastronomic experiences on board and ashore.
One such local dish is the cured duck breast with traditional Alaskan frybread and tangy redcurrent jam. According to Silversea, which is owned by Royal Caribbean Group, Alaskan frybread is made with yeast, while those further south make it with baking powder. Then there’s Alaskan salmon pie, made from local salmon. Travellers can also sample the deer species native to Alaska, the Sitka deer, in the venison raviolo.

“We’re delighted to celebrate the inauguration of S.A.L.T. in Alaska,” Adam Sachs, Director of S.A.L.T., Silversea, said.
“The program will enable our guests to connect meaningfully with the region through bespoke, enriching culinary experiences. From exploring the best ways to prepare wild local salmon in S.A.L.T. Lab classes designed by experts to immersive experiences ashore, the range of culinary experiences on offer will provide a unique lens through which our guests can deep dive into the local culture.”
Silver Nova’s Alaska season comprises 18 voyages, with itinerary options available for summer and fall bookings. For example, travelers can opt for the Vancouver to Seward (Anchorage, Alaska) voyage in June, or the Seward to Vancouver voyage in July, where they’ll sail between islands to witness the wildlife of the Inside Passage.
